A few days ago I stumbled upon this great website called Moviepig. In short, it will tell you if you're going to like a movie or not. You tell it a list of movies you have seen in order of preference (most liked to least liked) and then you ask it how much you're going to like a movie you haven't seen. It uses collaborative filtering to search for other people with the same tastes as you and tells you how much they liked the movie. It's quite handy, and it beats asking all your friends and then coming up with nothing because they have different tastes than you or reading about the movie somewhere and getting all the spoilers in the world.
It's rating of what others would prefer is accurate, and probably close to my taste. Unfortunately when it guesses how I would rate a movie, it always places the movie in question near the bottom of my list (even when it's a movie I saw and liked and would rate much higher).
